Publishing a book on New Zealand's Best Gourmet Pies is a bit of a shift compared with books on high country stations, surf towns and people living on the coast, but it is all about the people and their stories. I couldn't be happier with the breadth of variety and characters in this new book.
The past few weeks have been spent furiously shipping the books to bookshops throughout the country. I've also been busy talking with the media and making sure my book finds its way into newspapers, radio, magazines and websites. I've been blown away by the media's response to the book. Thank you to all those media outlets, many of whom also follow Box of Light. That support validates the original thought process we had back almost three years ago now around that campfire on the West Coast: New Zealanders love their pies.
We've had the lead feature in the ODT's Lifestyle magazine penned by Gavin Bertram. I've had an interview featured on The Breeze (thanks Hannah and Damian), and Radio 1 91FM (thanks Sian Mair), and this past week we featured in the Sunday Star Times. The feedback from those stories has been so reassuring. I'm very grateful to be featured in all those places.
We've also had lots of ebbs and flows on social media stories. That results in swarms of orders through the Box of Light website. It seems the book, and the ultimate road trip tea towel add-on, are perfect for that pie lover and tradie in your family and friends group.
See you at the beach ... Derek
PS This week's images come from our adventures around the coast this past week to surf a few novelty waves – and that is always good for the soul!
