June 21st 2022: Daylight

It's that time of year again when we're squeezed by the season into a daylight existence that barely spans a full eight hours. That's not a very generous window to get some work done and find a wave as well. It was made worse this week by temperatures cold enough to freeze any surf enthusiasm in its tracks ... but not quite enough to make it snow.

A week of storm swell chewed out the beaches and saw the sea claw ahead in the epic DCC vs the Ocean battle. End wall affect is now in full affect and there's hardly a straight sausage left down at St Clair Beach. Even the iconic poles have been reduced to one ... and a diminutive one at that.

It has been a massive reset for the surf banks as well – fingers crossed a couple of recent gems have managed to survive intact once the dust settles ... and the dust is settling this week with some great waves on offer as the stars align in time for Matariki.

Go hunting and see what you can find. We did this past week and found a superb little bank that just kept on giving ...
