May 31st 2022: Lost in space

This past week was a whirlwind with photography days in Wellington, Raglan, Christchurch and a bunch of erratic flights around the country. I hardly knew where I was each time I woke. Don't get me wrong, I love travel and the work I get to do, but this past week was pretty hectic. I certainly felt lost in space each time I woke up on a plane and stared out the window wondering where I was.

I love the window seats and watching the world go by so I've included a few of those images in today's report for you.

My designer mate Ian Ferguson runs Friends of Design and he's working on a new book project with me. He rips in the surf and so do his boys Dusty and Ace. So it was nice to schedule an actual board meeting with him at a secret break he's been telling me about near Raglan. The swell was small with the ocassional decent set – perfect for me, Dusty and Ian to share and only three of us on it. We traded a few waves and had some laughs, watching young Dusty crank out some proper good turns to put the old boys to shame. Always a good way to do a work meeting that's for sure.

This week we have Kaikoura in our sights ... stay tuned.

See you at the beach ... Derek

PS I'm slowly migrating across to Canon's new RF lens system and so I am selling a few of my EF lenses. The latest one to become available is my Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Mark II. That lens has shot a heap of the images on Box of Light and is a real star performer with lineups and also portrait work. It goes with me on every job. It originally cost me $3150, but I'm only asking $2200 and free shipping across the motu. Send me an email or drop me a line if you're keen. Would love to see it go to a good home.
