I feel a bit like my wings have been clipped this past few weeks. The deadline that was supposed to be well and truly behind me is still upon me. I'm grateful to be working on such an incredible project, but I woefully underestimated the time it would take to compile everything.
Since my first deadline passed I've missed most of the South Island Champs, two big wave events (they're the ones I love most of all) and one of the best north swells to greet our shores this year. That's some serious fomo. This past week was the worst. I received texts, phone calls and even emails about all the great waves that are on offer around our coastline. Each time I'd excuse myself, sit back down in my tiny home office and dive back into a story, and here comes the irony, of people living their dream lifestyle along the coast.
Okay, the stories are all very inspiring and I am kind of transported into another world when I write them, so it's not all bad. One other upside is that I get to dive into a box that sits on my desk – 40 terabytes (that's a lot) of adventures to select the images that make the cut for my next book. That process is a bit like the rabbithole in Alice in Wonderland – a kaleidoscope of waves and experiences.
