How good was that weekend? It smelled like summer, felt like summer and I have jandal chafing and sunburn to prove it. Clocked up a couple of surfs with the kids on Saturday then Sunday that swell filled in for all the mums and dads who needed a decent recharging tonic and nasal passage flush.
As much as I love winters in the deep south, my brain is definitely wired for longer days, a little more pep in the mercury and the flood of sunshine. One thing I've learnt, as have most people in Dunedin, is never to take a day like that for granted. Judging by the scores making camp at the beach (check out that shot below), everyone with a bikini, surfboard or beach cricket set was settled in for some Vitamin D.
Sure, the snowfall that just crashed the party yesterday may be the last gasp for the mountains, but summer is without a doubt on its way. Bring it on.
Next week I'm heading to Raglan and the forecast is looking good. Rumour has it Aussie pro surfers Ozzy Wright and Craig Anderson are in town. Stay tuned ...
See you at the beach ... Derek
PS Want to be a pro surf photographer? Of course you do. My mate Richard is selling his kit that includes a Canon EOS 1DX Mark II and complete water housing system. Check it out here. Okay, there's more to surf photography than an amazing kit, but this is a great start. Get swimming.
