When I first moved to Dunedin almost 10 years ago it was the big skies that drew my attention and my lens. It's such a giant canvas and constantly changing – even after years of shooting sunrises, sunsets and ominous storm cells rolling across the horizon I've never seen two skies the same.
The small waves this past week (perfect for my groms to get their surf froth on) gave me a chance to look up again and to capture some more of the wild expanse that we can so easily take for granted. We got side-swiped by a few storms (like the one below) that brought spring snow to Central Otago and then others lined us right up for a direct hit – like the one above that rolled through on Sunday. This one also ripped us out of the summery temperatures and reminded us that we still have some cold fronts to negotiate before the long summer days truly roll around.
And with that cold blast comes an end to the grommet nursery style waves we've been enjoying, as normal programming resumes with some decent swell forecast on both coasts this week. More details here.
