Box of Light turned five this past week. Yep, that’s five years of photo goodness delivered directly to your inbox every Tuesday at 10:30am (and occasionally more often when we’re really fizzing about something). That’s 256 reports – 2847 pictures and quite a few ice-cream headaches.
We’re stoked to be here and to see Box of Light continue to grow throughout that time. We now reach more than 7000 readers every week and more of you keep jumping on board everyday. That’s awesome. Also quite awesome are the advertisers and partners who help us to keep Box of Light free, fresh and inspired. Without them we wouldn’t be here.
And then there are the people behind the scenes – my wife and children who help me to spend so much time at the beach and doing cool things. And the many readers who write in after each report with their own tales, just to say hi, or offering bribes in return for directions to a secret spot. Those emails and the many from our photography friends are what makes Box of Light so much fun to make each week.
And all this is balanced out by my commercial and editorial work, which takes me to some amazing places to meet some amazing people. Like right now, I am writing this report from one of New Zealand’s most remote stations: Muzzle Station, nestled between the Inland and Seaward Kaikoura Ranges. It’s shearing time, the station is abuzz with 16 around the dinner table and a handful of surfers among them sharing stories of Indo adventures and epic moments along the Kaikoura coast in the wake of a full-on day of work. It’s not a bad life …
