Despite this past week's swarm of southerly fronts throwing up some healthy lines, trying to find a window where the wind, swell and day-to-day commitments align has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack. This is the pinch point of the season for me – low daylight hours mean a condensed schedule and even less time to pinpoint the best conditions. So this week we chased a few snow clouds around and found some uninspiring waves beneath menacing steel-blue skies. And a couple of fleeting sunrise reveals.
Still, it's always an exciting time of year as those fronts line us up. For Central Otago at least they delivered some much-needed snow to really get the ski season underway. Reports of 50cm at Remarks, Coronet, TC and Cardrona can only mean good things for the season. Stay tuned as we head into the hills in an upcoming edition ...
This week on the coast we are going to see more of those southerly steamrollers – some may even bring snow to low-levels ... and some more Antarctic-origin swell lurking down south – one of these with a beautiful long run up and a corridor that has been nicely groomed by this past swarm. We'll be on the hunt.
