This past week I have been lucky enough to play host and photographer to Australian journalist Glenn Cullen. He's a lanky, size 13-shod icon of Australian sports and ski journalism. He has become bike curious in the past few years so I have been charged with showing him around the best trails of the Central North Island.
Apart from getting to ride some of the best trails in the country I am always blown away by the calibre of the people we meet along the way. From bike hippies who have made good in technical clothing manufacturing, to a deputy mayor who could rip the legs off most mountain bikers, there have been many moments where I have sat back and watched Glenn trying to fathom the depth of passion that runs through these people's veins. It's not just about mountain biking – it's about life and living it to the fullest in a natural environment that is completely accessible. That's a far cry from the desk in an office block in central Sydney that Glenn is more accustomed to. I think he's warming to us ...
