This past week has been a crazy one of travel and it doesn't look like letting up soon – a new town occupies the squares in my calendar for the next two weeks. It's a transient lifestyle pockmarked by lots of amazing experiences. This week I managed to loop back into Raglan for a day or two to catch up with good friends.
We traded waves, shared food and laughed into the wee hours as we exchanged stories and mocked each other the way you can after more than 20 years of mateship. It feels like coming home each time I visit Raglan and the town just seems to be getting brighter, bolder and savvier. On the Friday I turned up the Raglan Surf Academy was in full swing at Manu Bay with grommets throwing down decent airs, some big turns and milking every wall for all it was worth. Further around the point a few laidback individuals chased lazy waves at Whale Bay, a bit further past them a mob circled around Indies – throwing buckets of spray as they raced down each wrapping line. On the horizon at the very top of the points a few hardy souls negotiated a boiling inside as they skirted the rocky boulder beach. Everywhere, as far as the eye could see: stoke. The arrival of the new swell was a welcome sight for all.
I managed to sneak out for a dawnie before rushing off to catch a plane, leaving the best conditions of the weekend behind me as I headed into my next adventure. Transience, like good quality sessions with a handful of mates, is fleeting.

During my travels I have been fortunate enough to have been able to try Canon's new EOS 5DSR – the 50mp medium-format killer that every photographer is talking about. I thrashed it with some landscapes (including these two seascapes in this edition) sport, surf and people photography and have been amazed by the results. The sheer volume of detail in the images is mind-boggling. It's going to become the new standard for professional photographers. Want a picture for a billboard the size of a house? No trouble.
