We love doing these surveys – it's our chance to get to know our 6500 readers a little bit better. It's about as close as we'll get to having a coffee with you all individually. We use the survey information to fine-tune what we're doing and to make sure we understand the things you like best and the things you're not so hot on.
It also reveals a little more about who you are and we are pretty stoked to learn you're a bunch of well-travelled and ambitious beach lovers. A massive 72% of you intend to travel in the next 12 months with 60% planning a holiday in New Zealand and 55% heading internationally for a holiday or surf trip. That's probably not surprising – surfers are among the most well-travelled people on the planet. You're also right into documenting your travels and lifestyle through photography and you're spread right across that photography learning curve from complete beginner to seasoned expert.
Of the 88% of our readers who live in New Zealand, 54% of you come from Dunedin, followed by Mount Maunganui, then Raglan, then Christchurch, Piha, Gisborne, Wellington, Muriwai, Taranaki, The Catlins and Whangamata, with a scattering around the coastline from there. Internationally our readers are mostly in Australia, then USA, Japan, England, Germany and Canada.
We always pitched ourselves as that welcome Tuesday morning coffee break and it rings true – 93% of our readers are over the age of 21, almost 20% of you run your own businesses (well, that explains why so many of you can surf during the week), while only 1% of our readers are looking for work. You're a successful bunch, too, with 31% of you earning more than $80,000 per annum and 18% of you lucky characters planning to buy a new car next year and 9% eyeing up a new house.
You're a quirky bunch, too. A quarter of you will buy an artwork for your home next year and one in five of you enjoy skinny dipping ...
It's also very clear to us that you want to see even more surfing and beachscapes, so enough stats – here's this week's hit.
See you at the beach ... Derek
