One of the most common requests we get at Box of Light is people asking where they can find our framed work. Since the start of January we have been very excited to be exhibiting in the Dunedin International Airport as the Artist in Residence. We are there until the end of February and have 15 framed prints on the walls throughout the airport.
If you get the chance go and check them out – seeing the images really big and framed beautifully (thanks to Matt at The Photo Gallery) really does justice to the detail in the images – something that's harder to appreciate in the small images we send you each week.
A huge thanks to the airport team, which has selflessly pushed local artists through its Artist in the Terminal program since it all started back in 2010 with Sam Foley. Since then they have helped to bring the works of artists such as Jason Low, Manu Berry, Maria Kemp, Karen Pringle and a whole host of other talented creatives to the lives of people passing through the terminal. It has become an icon of the Dunedin International Airport experience and we are stoked to be a part of that.
One artist who probably won't be appearing there is a graffiti phenomenon from Belgium – a guy called Roa! He's been in Bath St this past week painting his latest masterpiece: a giant tuatara having a roll on its back. We photographed Roa! this week, but he has strict rules: no brands in sight anywhere and we can't show his face at all. I'm guessing he won't appreciate our blatant plug for our airport exhibition.
Swell slowly dying out on the South Coast this week coming, but a fresh southwest swell arriving late Thursday and Friday. Hopefully some summer sunshine in the mix, too.
