January 21st 2014: Walls

It has been a long time coming, but on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, St Clair Point finally broke like "the old days". Sure, we've had some dreamy sessions out there over the years, but nothing quite like what unfolded on Wednesday. I saw surfers take off at JRs on five-foot-plus set waves, race through a hollow, hollow section across the face of the point before navigating their way into the St Clair Bowl (yep, if it sounds a little like Bells, then you're right). The Bowl is where it was all happening – warping arcs peeling off as wide as they were high – prime entertainment for tuberiders and there were plenty of takers. 

Standout performances have to go to a bunch of the old boys with local shaper Graham Carse leading the charge and the wave count. Carsey is 61 years old, but looked like a teenager (complete with wild grin) in that line-up. Also nice to see Peter Rae and Ken Fielding claiming some nice waves.

You had all of Wednesday to sample some of the finest Point waves around, but just in case you missed it then I hope you were primed for Saturday's evening session that was almost Wednesday's equal.

Keep an eye out for a mid-week pulse on the North Coast and still plenty of swell left on the South Coast this week with winds swirling around the compass a bit.
